Alcohol, Women and Blackouts
Well we all wanted equality didn’t we? Votes for women, equal pay, an end to discrimination and violence against women.
These things and more have been and are being fought for the world over.
Unfortunately there are some areas where we will never be the same as men. One is drinking alcohol. It doesn’t matter how hard we try, the anatomical and biological differences between the sexes make it impossible for women to compete.
Not that we should be trying to really. The days when your granny had a wee sherry at Christmas are well and truly over. The drinks industry have seen to that.
Women have been targeted as an untapped market since the end of the two world wars. Babycham, Martini, Dubonnet, cocktails, wines galore, gins by the bucketful (literally).
Correct me if I’m wrong but are men likely to buy pink sparkly bottles of anything?
We women are now catching up with men in heart disease, cancer and diabetes.
There is one area where women reign supreme, and that is alcoholic blackouts. The science proves that men rarely have blackouts. Women are much more likely to experience a blackout and have no recollection of events. The science shows that women, particularly young women, reach intoxication about 3 drinks before a male (to do with our body water content being lower) and alcohol goes into the blood stream quicker, enters the part of the brain to do with making memory, and voila! A predatory male’s dream night out.
That’s a recipe for disaster as evidenced by the cases in the news of drunk women being targeted by predatory males. Then it’s a case of she said/he said when it comes to court. Little to no evidence can be found and the perpetrator walks away.
So here is one area where women need to rethink equality. Rethink how we are being manipulated by the drinks industry (nothing personal, purely financial), and step away from the bar, the wine culture, the jugs of cocktails, the shots etc. Reclaim your own value and sense of self worth. Protect your own health and safety.
Don’t be made vulnerable and weak by alcohol. Don’t be a statistic.
